The beaches of Enoshima and Kamakura
Return to my hometown in Japan
When I return to Japan in winter, I always go to Enoshima. I’m drawn to the winter sea, quieter than it is in summer. This collection is a record of snapshots taken around Enoshima in winter.
When I return to Japan in winter, I find myself going to Enoshima, always. I can’t explain it very well. It just feels as if something slips slightly out of place if I don’t. The summer sea is not bad, but it’s the winter sea that pulls me in. There are fewer people, and sounds carry further. The waves come and go in the same way, and yet the mood is different. In that quietness, only time moves on, steadily and without comment.
This photo collection is a gathering of snapshots taken in and around Enoshima on those winter days. I wasn’t looking for anything special. I simply walked, stopped, and pressed the shutter, as if to confirm the scent of cold salt in the air and the outline of the distant horizon. I wanted to leave what was there as it was.
