About Nobuyuki Taguchi Photography

I was born in Yokohama, Japan in 1968 and have been living in the UK since 1990.

Photography has always been a personal form of expression for me, a quiet way to observe and reflect through images.
I do not clearly separate being a photographer from being someone who works in IT.

When I was a student in Japan, I often spent time in local bookstores, looking through Western black-and-white photography books. I didn’t dream of becoming a photographer, but I was deeply drawn to the atmosphere, the sense of distance, and the quiet aesthetic qualities found in those images. I couldn’t afford the books, but I returned to them again and again, engaging with the visual experience each time.

After I did not pass the entrance exam for an art university in Japan, I moved to the UK and studied Fine Art, specialising in sculpture. I completed both a BA and an MA. After graduation, I began working in IT as a way to support myself.

Around that time, digital photography was becoming more accessible. I naturally began taking photographs again. The process of working with digital images suited my background in IT, and photography slowly became part of my daily routine. Even without gallery exhibitions, it became possible to share work online through websites and social media. In a way, the tools and the time I live in have shaped the space where I now find myself.

This site is a place where I quietly collect what I have seen. For a long time, I worked mainly in black and white, but more recently I’ve started exploring the use of colour as well. Each approach has its own strength, and I’m gradually learning how they speak differently.
